A Quaint and Cozy Southeastern Kentucky Town
Resting along the Virginia border in Harlan County is Evarts. It is rumored that the town was named for a Kentucky pioneer family. One famous event in the town’s history is 1931's “Battle of Evarts”, in which recently-fired coal miners and police deputies escorting a non-union miner engaged in a deadly shootout. In recent years, Evarts has grown beyond what even its founders could’ve ever hoped for, providing families a warm and welcome place to live in the bluegrass. Now recognized nationally as the number one off-road destination, Evarts is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records for holding the Longest ATV Parade (with 1138 ATVs participating).
