Kentucky's First Railroad Town
Just West of Lexington is Midway. Once a railroad junction town, its tracks remain active today down the appropriately named Railroad Street downtown. Several beautiful horse farms reside in Midway, giving this Bluegrass region the perfect aesthetics for an afternoon drive. Midway is also home to Midway College, an independent liberal arts institution for women (the only in Kentucky). There are 176 buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places which are located in Midway. The Midway Fall Festival is held every year in September, providing a number of entertaining events for those in attendance.
